In 2020, Innovit Electric delivered a batch of partial discharge sensors to OMICRON Germany for the first time, including high-frequency current transformers, TEV sensors, ultrasonic and UHF sensors, which were highly affirmed by OMICRON. In August 2021, Innovit Electric once again provided a batch of TEV sensors to OMICRON Canada branch for its partial discharge monitoring system. OMICRON is a multinational company that provides innovative testing and diagnostic solutions for the power industry.
Partial discharge (PD) is one of the faults that occur due to defects in the user’s electrical high-voltage insulation system. Users need partial discharge measurement to monitor the condition of the equipment to avoid further expansion of the failures. The partial discharge that occurs in the metal cabinet shell will emit electromagnetic waves at a wide frequency, which propagate and leak to the outside to excite the surface current on the metal wall, and then generate a transient ground voltage due to the current and impedance of the material. The TEV sensor is installed on the surface of the metal shell to detect the TEV signal representing the inside of the partial discharge, and then the TEV signal can be measured by an oscilloscope to obtain the partial discharge mode. The results show that each defect has its own characteristics and is different from each other. A partial amplifier with a larger amplitude produces a higher TEV signal. Based on the experimental results, the partial discharge measurement using the TEV sensor can be further developed, which is not only used to measure the partial discharge amplitude, but also can obtain a phase-resolved partial discharge mode. Therefore, it can be used to estimate the type of partial discharge occurring in the device.
